Mission and Values

SAMATVAM MEDITATION AND YOG CENTER (SMYC) is a non-profit meditation and yog center teaching the highest quality of mindfulness, meditation and yog practices, operating online and in-person and open for all.

SAMATVAM or SAMATTVA is a Sanskrit word that means “equanimity”. The word “equanimity” comes from the combination of two Latin terms: aequus, meaning “even, level” and animus, meaning “mind” or “spirit.” Equanimity is characterized by the ability to remain calm, composed, open, and non-reactive in the face of challenging or distressing situations and face such situations with more clarity and wisdom. It’s a state of mind that we can actively cultivate

Motivation behind SMYC

The motivation behind SMYC is an underlying urge to appreciate mindfulness, meditation and yoga in all its dimensions and to encourage and support the journey of every individual towards self-transformation by exploring these different dimensions.

Additionally, to bring some of our programs and classes that are offered free to marginalized communities that would otherwise not be able to afford or have access to these teachings. This includes serving under-resourced schools, health care clinics, and non-profits serving high-risk youth and those experiencing poverty. Many have already benefitted from these mindfulness teachings by learning healthy coping mechanisms for responding to stress and whatever derailers life may throw upon them.

Our Process

Our purpose is to provide a comprehensive system that integrates the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of our being – a system which integrates the body, breath, heart and mind leading to greater self-awareness, self-development, and to finding a deeper meaning in life. When one is in one’s best possible state, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, happiness, love and tranquility – Samatvam- is a natural outcome.

Our primary mission is to conduct meditation and related courses and to create well-trained teachers globally who can help people experience well-being through such meditation, yog and mindfulness practices under the guidance of the founder and core team and to provide support to all.
